As you probably know, I am living in Buenos Aires, Argentina because of an amazing program my employer started this year. It's called Passport Abroad, and it's an opportunity of a lifetime. I have worked for Millward Brown for just over two years now and up until moving to Buenos Aires four weeks ago, I have never actually worked in a Millward Brown office. I've always worked on-site as a consultant to one of our clients, Nestle Purina.
One of the things I've always loved about the Millward Brown Chicago office (the office where my team is based) is the tradition of bringing breakfast for your colleagues on Friday mornings. Well, I was quite pleased to find out that the tradition of sharing el desayuno (breakfast) is alive and well here in the MB BsAs office too. Each Friday, one person from each team brings breakfast to share with their teammates. This week, it was my turn to supply the morning goods. What to bring? The answer was easy: las facturas (pastries) from my favorite neighborhood pastry shop, Le Mignon. The pastries here in BsAs are pretty amazing (but also dangerously addictive) no matter where you pick them up, but Le Mignon has got to be my favorite place. Part of it has to do with it being just two blocks away as well as the first place Brian and I tried facturas upon arriving here, but they truly are rico as well!!
There are many different types of facturas here, but medialunas (a smaller version of a croissant that has a delightfully sweet glaze on it) are probably the most common. They come plain, but are also often filled with dulce de leche (similar to caramel but much better in my opinion). Dulce de leche is practically the national food down here. It’s used in or on nearly everything (except for beef...now there’s an idea!). Think of it kind of like peanut butter is to us in the states, which is not easy to find here. Other common fillings are dulce de batata (sweet potato), membrillo (quince) and crema pastelera (pastry cream).
One final note: this entire tray of 24 homemade pastries cost me less than 12 USD (48 ARS)! Que bueno!
Chau!
I love and miss you while being so happy that we get to share this experience.
